In Loving Memory

Shannon Darlene Monssen

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Shannon Monssen , beloved life partner and best friend of  Ben Johnson.

Shannon was born in New Westminster,  to parents Floyd and Dina Monssen, both deceased, and grew up in Coquitlam. Floyd ran a successful construction company employing many people throughout the 1960’s to 1990’s.  When Shannon was young she enjoyed summers in Birch Bay, Washington State where the family rented the same cottage every year.  In the winters Floyd took the family on day trips skiing to all the local lower mainland hills where Shannon learned to ski.

Shannon moved  to Winfield, Lake Country in the early 1990s. She worked at the Greek House Restaurant for many years as a Hostess/Manager.   For the past 10 years she enjoyed working at the post office.  Shannon met Ben in 2006. They hit it off immediately and soon began a new life together.   Shannon and Ben loved skiing together everywhere; at the now defunct Crystal Mountain, where Shannon was a popular Snow Host, at Big White, and all the other resorts around the Interior.  Shannon loved playing tennis.  After starting tennis in 2007 Shannon became very proficient and passionate in the sport,  competing  in local tournaments with partner Ben in mixed doubles, and sometimes ladies singles. For many years Shannon was “Director of Food” for the Lake Country tennis club events which she loved being a part of.  Shannon was a gourmet cook and loved putting on  dinner parties in our home.   Everyone raved about how good her cooking was.   She was also very artistic with our home filled with her lovely colourful Rob Ross and modernist inspired paintings.  Shannon was extremely caring and thoughtful to everyone; she loved animals and taking care of them, especially cats, and taking care of Ben.  Shannon loved travelling  and camping throughout BC.  Over the years Shannon booked all the adventures for Ben and her to places like Mexico,  Thailand, Jamaica, Cuba, the USA,  and their last trip in January 2024 to Nassau, Bahamas.   Shannon loved living life to the fullest and was always up for any new adventure, or trip, or new activity.   She always had a great attitude. Shannon was beautiful both inside and out.

Shannon is survived by her life partner and best friend Ben, her 2 sisters: Tammy Dawn, and Cindy (fiancee Don),   Her Mother-in-Law Gail, sister-in-law Michele (partner Brett), many cousins, 2 aunts, and 1 uncle, and lovely little cats Mars and Jupiter.  Shannon, with her lovely spirit and zest for life,  will be missed terribly by family and friends.

A celebration of Life will be held on THURSDAY, JULY 11, 2024, at 2:00pm at Okanagan Center Hall, 11099 Maddock Avenue, Lake Country, B.C.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Shannon’s name to the charity of your choice.
