Dear Mavis and Family, we wanted to express our condolences and sincere regrets at your loss of Mike. We are unable to attend the celebration of Mike’s life at ALF on Saturday because we are at a pre-planned Father’s Day weekend with our children and grandchildren in the Lower Mainland.

I enjoyed very much working with Mike. One always knew where Mike was coming from and he was always, with me and more importantly with students, honest and supportive, never hesitant to make suggestions if improvement was needed. Mike always listened intently in discussions and never hesitant to explain his understand of issues

I recall in my four years at ALF that Mike would walk to school every day. I do not remember him every driving. Mike was an ALF supporter, in all areas, but particularly in the academic side of learning where he had high standards for student learning. Extra curricular contributions were made to the ALF basketball program and to basketball throughout the school district through Mike’s refereeing expertise. On a staff level I recall staff parties at your house where Mike hosted with the intent of bringing all members together. Mike wanted ALF students to excel in whatever their goals were.

Mike had a pleasant smile and highly developed sense of humour. He also had high expectations of professional performance of himself and for the wider teaching profession. I worked with Mike during his role as STA President and found him to be most professional just as he was in his teaching role in the school.

I was well aware of Mike’s knowledge and support of the Enderby community and when I arrived at ALF he was most generous in explaining to me how the community worked. He was most knowledgeable about local civic politics and happenings. He strove to ensure that ALF had a real community presence.

Mike will indeed be missed by your family and by his friends as well. We will indeed make a donation to the Canadian Cancer fund.

Please accept this note with our love and condolences for the loss of Mike, husband and dad.

    Wayne and Linda Spencer

On behalf of all the Tuesday afternoon Geezer golfers at The Overlander let me say that Mike was one of the really “nice” guys. Always a smile and could give and take jokes as good as anyone. We’ll miss his conversations with himself on the tee box as well as the beers with him after, which is an integral part of Geezer golf. Keep hitting them long and straight Mike 🏌️‍♂️

Mavis, I was sorry to hear of Mike’s passing and we only heard of his celebration of life yesterday
I have many good memories of teaching with Mike. He was an excellent teacher and a formidable “O Hell ” player
His impact on the community of Enderby is a tribute to who he was and is a fine legacy any teacher would be proud of
