In Loving Memory

Mary Mae Shaw

It is with great sadness and shattered hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend, Mary Mae Shaw of Kamloops on April 1, 2024, at the age of 63.

Mary leaves behind her husband, Douglas Shaw, daughters Mandy (Charlie) and Christine (Shawn), her brothers David and Kenny, sisters Dianne and Cheryl, grandchildren Ilianna, Kayde and Aiden, brothers-in-law Ken (Pat), Greg (Sheila), Geoff (Karen) and Bruce (June). Mary also had 7 nephews, Chad, James, Patrick, Geoff, Bradley, Todd and Eric, and 10 nieces, Michelle, Cheryl, Jasmine, Erinne, Nancy, Jenn, Ashley, Beverly, Annie and Rebecca. Mary also leaves behind many cousins and close friends.

Mary is predeceased by her brother Donald, stepfather Kenny, nephew Jay, mother, Roxy, mother-in-law Ivy and brother-in-law Paul.

Mary was born in Fort Frances, Ontario, on June 22, 1960, moved to Winnipeg in 1969. Mary had her first daughter, Mandy, in 1979 and had her second daughter, Christine, in 1981. In April of 1983, Mary met the love of her life, Doug. Mary and Doug were married in Fort Frances, Ontario, on August 9, 1984. Doug, Mary and the girls moved to Kamloops in the summer of 1987.

Mary loved her family fiercely and without judgement and was constantly welcoming Mandy and Christine’s friends into the family as her “adopted” children. Mary had a passion for caring for and feeding people. You always knew if you were going to Mary and Doug’s house that you were going to leave with a full belly and a happy heart. Mary’s passion for caring for and feeding people would lead her to a career at The Mustard Seed, where she cooked for the public for 14 years.

Mary will forever be remembered for her kind heart and her sense of humour. If you were spending time with Mary, you were guaranteed to be laughing until your cheeks hurt. She was quick witted and always had a comeback. She had a smile that lit up the room and an infectious laugh.

As per Mary’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held at The Mustard Seed on Saturday April 13, 2024, at 3pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mustard Seed in Mary’s name, or to the family to go towards a memorial bench for Mary.
