In Loving Memory
Lucile Schunter
Lucile Schunter of Kamloops, BC passed away on October 20, 2024 at the golden age of 94.
Born and raised in Spiritwood Saskatchewan in 1929. She met her husband William Schunter, they married in 1949, then moved out West to Lumby, BC. Together they worked in logging camps, where Lucile was a camp cook and Bill was a logger. Later moving to Kamloops to start their family and raise their 3 children. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and belonged to the Legion of Mary for a number years, her faith was very important to her. Lucile and Bill excelled in curling and bowling. She was quite competitive and did very well with no surprise, as she was a true ginger at heart and she couldn’t be stopped when she set her mind to something, this is where I get it from♥ Together with friends and family, they enjoyed many canasta games or marble nights. Grama loved her bingo games, lottery and her scratch tickets. No matter the weather she would walk 2 miles a day to visit her sister and go the Brock bingo hall.
She is survived by her 6 grandchildren Tanice (Joe), Jennifer (Dave), Heather (Chris), Kathy (Ted), Trevor, and Susy (Kyle). She also had 7 great-grandchildren Brandyn, Lachlan, Owen, Lexi, Phoebe, Grayson, and Sienna whom which she cherished deeply. She loved to spend time with them and was so very proud of all their accomplishments.
Her predeceased list is a long one, as she out lived so many people in her family, just as we always said she would. Her spunk and tenacity are what kept her going right until her final day. She is predeceased by both parents Donat and Rosmary Doucette, her husband Bill, and her 3 children Sharon, Bernice and Norman.
She had 10 siblings Noel & Dorothy Doucette, Mary & Johnny Café, Annete & James Walker, Simone & Dick Ross, Tess & Albert Hanky, Bob & Edna Doucette, Tony Doucette, Leona & John LeBlanc, Isabelle & Ken Fergutz, and Maria Lepage.
We have the deepest respect and appreciation for The Kamloops Hospice. Grama was so grateful for them and the kindness they showed her daily♥

Bless you Auntie. I am so very fortunate have had such an amazing lady in my life over the years. So many Yahtzee and crib games. Driving you and Mom to church. The Christmas Carols at Christmas dinners. Making you many home cooked meals when you needed them. You were so Loved. I can well imagine the reunions in Heaven. Until we too shall meet again. Love You.
Hello to all of Aunty Lucille’s grandchildren. I am a second or third cousin to all of you . Lucille was married to my Uncle Bill who was brother to my Mom. Being a bit older I used to babysit Sharon, Bernice and Norman. Often on a night they were going bowling and I would sleep over if they got home too late.
One of my favorite memories of Aunty Lucille was the morning she did my hair up in ringlets before I went to school. For some reason my Mom Mildred couldn’t make the ringlets stay even after I slept all night with my hair in rag curlers. I was a student nurse at the Kamloops Hospital when Leona gave birth to the twins. Everyone was amazed at her ability to tuck a baby in each arm while they nursed. Your Grandpa Bill was well known for his ability to Yodel. Apparently the family knew when he was walking home because they could hear him yodel a mile away. This is when the Schunter family lived on Creighton Valley road east of Lumby.
My Sympathy and condolences to you. And yes, Aunty Lucille was a “firebrand” She had a wonderful laugh.
Cathy
Many memorable moments spent with Uncle Bill and Auntie Lucille. Playing cards, curling, and just plain old visiting.
The most memorable was the “discussion” after every hand that Bill and Lucille had.
Lots of Love and Laughter ensued.
Our deepest condolences to Luciles family. We all will have fond memories of her lively card games.
Love to all
