In Loving Memory

Anders Goncalves da Silva

It is with profound sadness that the family of Anders Gonçalves da Silva announce his far too premature passing on April 14th 2023 at the age of 44. Anders was surrounded by loved ones on a beautiful sunny day as he passed.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Danielle, his children, Rafael and Teo, his parents Jennifer and Cylon, his brother Per (Carolina) and children (Penélope and Bento), his parents-in-law Lynne and Ernie, and his extended family. He will also be dearly missed by his many friends from all around the world.

Anders was born in Lausanne, Switzerland. Throughout his life he spent time living in Switzerland, Brazil, Australia, France, The United States, and Canada. He grew up in Campinas, Brazil, in a small house with a big garden, a year round pool, his favourite climbing tree, and several dogs. He earned a BSc from Universidade Estadual de Campinas and a PhD from Columbia University. During his career he worked for UBC Okanagan, CSIRO, Monash University, The Microbiological Diagnostic Unit Public Health Laboratory at Melbourne University, and Lighthouse Genomics. Anders had many passions and interests but he dedicated his life to wildlife conservation and public health.

Memorial donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation and the Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative, which is run by his best friend, and conservation warrior, Patricia Medici.
