In Loving Memory
Florence Maude Smith
Sadly, we had to bid our dear mother farewell. She was the heartbeat that resonated through all of us. We were blessed with a beautiful, sweet, loving woman to guide us through life.
Mom was born in Indian Harbour Nova Scotia to John and Lila (nee Isnor) Keeping, and grew up in Herring Cove, Nova Scotia where she met her soulmate Douglas John Smith. Together they began a long line of descendants.
Mom had a full and busy life. After moving to BC in 1958, she worked for Zeller’s as Sales Clerk then Personnel Manager. After that, she held a few positions with Eaton’s, two of which were Buyer and Personnel Manager. When she and Dad moved to Kamloops, they, along with our sister Debbie, bought a small restaurant and together they became well-loved for their food and their outgoing, kind personalities. Years later, Dad retired from CN (Via Rail), and they were awarded a contract to service the Rocky Mountaineer train when it was stationed in Kamloops. There was nothing Mom was afraid to tackle. After retiring, she began knitting the cherished baby blankets as the great and great-great grandchildren arrived. She loved to do crossword puzzles and read. She even wrote her autobiography titled “Because Two People Fell in Love”.
During her days in palliative care, Mom made us laugh while she still had some strength. The staff loved her dearly, as she was so grateful and kind towards them. Thank you to all of the staff at Pinegrove Care Centre for the tender loving care you gave to our mother. We all witnessed it and are forever thankful.
Mom left us with wonderful memories and the love she never stopped giving.
She is survived by:
Children: Donna (Derek), Deborah (Wayne), Patricia (John), Douglas Jr. (Lanie) Sharon (Mel), Gregory, Susan (Gerard) and Lynn (Joe). 17 Grandchildren, 22 Great grandchildren and 11 Great-great Grandchildren. Also survived by sisters, Viola, Valera and Jackie and brother John.
Predeceased by the love of her life, our father, “Dougie”; sisters Nina, Julia, Lillian and Alice.
We will celebrate her life together in the near future. She is at peace now, for which we are grateful.

So very sad to learn of Aunt Florence’s passing. As a young child I have fond memories of going to the Halifax train station to meet her when arriving from BC to NS for a visit. I was also lucky to spend some time and visit with her when we travelled to Vancouver for Expo 86. She was a sweet lady and will be missed. Rest easy Aunt Florence. ❤️ Thinking of you all during this sad time of loss. With our sincere condolences, Heather (Eisnor) and Allan Sanche
