Sylvia Elaine Botkin

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom Sylvia Elaine Botkin on September 17, 2026 in Enderby, B.C., at the age of 88.

Mom was born in Luseland, Saskatchewan in 1938 to Reuben and Jessie Murrell. She was the youngest of 15 children.

Moving to B.C. in 1947, the family settled on Evergreen Avenue in Enderby.

As a young girl, mom worked as a nanny in the South Okanagan, as well as a waitress. As an adult, her jobs included working at a butcher shop as a meat wrapper as well as in cashier positions.

Mom always had such an incredible work ethic that she never once had to seek out work, jobs were always offered to her. Always a generous soul, she would never hesitate to help a customer who was short of money for a purchase, lend an ear to a troubled friend, or open her door to anyone in need. 

She loved music and played acoustic guitar in her younger years. Learning to play by ear, she often had jam sessions with her siblings. Singing was another thing she absolutely loved to do. She also attended many concerts over the years.

Mom’s house was where all our friends would come to hang out, and the door was always open to them.  Friends were very treasured, and Mom was very respected by all who knew her.

Her much-anticipated retirement in 2003 from Red Basket was celebrated with dinner & dancing at Cedar Ridge Guest Ranch. 

She was an incredible cook, and her recipes will be passed down to be enjoyed and cherished.

In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to her extensive music collection, dancing, reading, knitting, playing cards, crossword puzzles, family dinners, and watching her soaps.

She is survived by her devoted children Bruce, Penny (Jason), Joan (Clayton), and Doug (Danielle); grandchildren Jessie (Tyler), Brandon (Steph), and Chris (Caitlin); great-grandchildren Levi, Topher, Sebastian, and Emmit; sister Iris Reiter; and numerous nieces & nephews. 

She is predeceased by her beloved Daniel.

She was the heart or our family, a source of endless love and a guiding light for all who knew her. While our hearts are broken, we will take comfort in the treasured memories of our amazing Mom.

There will be no service by her request.
