Ruth Elsie Leask
Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan August 15, 1928
It is with broken hearts we share the passing of our Mom on Thanksgiving morning at Vernon hospice. She is now free of the demons that came with her dementia.
She will be sadly missed by her 9 surviving children, lots of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren!
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Allan Leask; and daughters, Claudia and Sheila.
Mom lived in Vancouver, BC, until 1974 when they went on a family camping trip to Fort St John and never came back!! After Dad passed and the kids moved out, Mom moved to Prince George in 2014 to live with Richard and Kelly; and then to Langley in 2015 to live with Penny and, finally, to Vernon in 2022 to live with Josi, Dennis, Cal & Shirley.
Unfortunately, the dementia sent her to hospital at the end of July and then to hospice at the beginning of October where she passed.
A celebration of life will be planned and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to C.N.I.B. would be appreciated.

Aunty Ruth just popped into my head, letting me know that she was visiting with Mom and they were have a great time! My Mom, Margaret Katona and Aunty Ruth met somewhere along the lines when our families both lived in Haney, BC. We lived near the top of the hill of 9th Avenue/225th Street and the Leask family lived just around the lower bend on River Road. Everything about Ruth was loud and wonderful! Her presence, her laugh, her sense of humour, her home and her family! We all simply adored her and as the “kids” grew up and out, I’m not sure when we all lost touch. I ran into Penny at a laundromat in Langley, and we shared caregiver stories… her and Ruth, me and my father. It was so lovely that we were able to meet for lunch. We moved shortly after, amid family chaos, and lost touch again. So tonight, when Ruth spoke to me, I knew I had waited too long to find them. A quick Google search brought me here, feeling the ache of loss looking at Ruth’s smiling face. To the Leask family – our hearts are heavy with Aunty Ruth’s passing, and we all send our love, condolences and light to each of you. When recalling the best of times during our lives, the Leask family are in so many of those memories. Always, Kathy Katona McIntosh
