In Loving Memory of Mary “May” Wilson
May 17, 1941 – May 17, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Wilson, who died peacefully on
her 84th birthday, in Lumby, British Columbia, after living with dementia in her later years.
Mary was born in Bargeddie, Scotland. She brought the warmth, strength, and resilience of her
Scottish heritage into every aspect of her life.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Mary was known for her gentle heart,
quiet strength, and unwavering dedication to others.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Thomas Wilson; her son, David
Wilson; and her son-in-law, Philip Pool.
Mary is lovingly remembered by her daughters Debra Pool and Anne Wilson, her
daughter-in-law Valerie Nicholson, and her 7 grandchildren, that she treasured.
Mary had a deep passion for helping others and was a dedicated volunteer for over 25 years
with Special Olympics BC, serving in both North Vancouver and Vernon. She also gave
generously of her time and leadership as a board member with Community Living and the
Vernon and District Association for Community Living. Her advocacy and compassion made a
lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and families.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Monashee Mews in Lumby,
who cared for Mary with kindness and dignity over the past five years.
While no one can change the outcome of dementia, with the right support, you can change the
journey-and Mary’s journey was made gentler through the care and compassion of those around
her.
As per Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made
to the Vernon and District Association for Community Living (VDACL) in her memory.
Mary will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
