Lawrence Patrick Lunday Cummings

In loving celebration and with cherished memories, we announce the passing of Lawrence Patrick Lunday Cummings of Kamloops, BC on July 17, 2026, at the age of 90 years old.

Larry was born on May 18, 1936, in Seattle, Washington to Ida Beryl Bothman Lunday and Thomas Archie Lunday.

An outgoing lover of all peoples, Larry was raised in Vancouver BC and worked as a logger on Vancouver Island in his teens and then in Sorrento, where he met Joan on the school bus.  Larry graduated from the Vancouver School of Art in 1962 (before it became the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design) where he studied as a Visual Artist and Painter. He then worked as a Commercial Artist in Gastown, BC before moving to Kamloops with his wife Joan, a nurse at Royal Inland Hospital.  Larry worked for more than 30 years in Kamloops as a Sign Painter & Designer with various sign companies around the city.  You have all probably seen or read Larry’s work at one time or another on drives through the Fraser Canyon, up the Yellowhead or out to the Shuswap Lakes as he designed, created and painted many of the Highway Billboards in the 80’s and 90’s, or many of the banners and signs he created while you were grocery shopping at Cooper’s and Overwaitea stores. Larry loved to downhill ski, swimming across the lake at Blind Bay and going camping with his family. Larry was often seen dancing or heard singing or listening to original cast recording albums of Broadway Musicals every Sunday Morning. Larry was once involved with the now infamous snowgolf tournaments of the early 70’s.  Many of you may remember encountering Larry at one of the fine public houses around Valleyview, or for a Saturday morning therapy session at the Kami Inn.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan Cummings; children, Barbara Rolfe (Jim) and Jeff Cummings (Judith Bowden); grandchildren, James Rolfe, Kathleen Smith, and Molly Bowden Cummings; sister, Mary Ann Cummings (John Rubenstein); great grand children, Anthony, Grayson, Sophia, Adalynn and Melody.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Beryl Cummings and Archie Lunday; stepfather Drake Cummings and stepbrother Lyle Cummings.

The Family would like to thank the staff and care teams at the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre who cared for and laughed with Larry over the past 6 years.

The family will be celebrating Larry during a small private gathering at a later date.
