John Joseph Gibney

It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of John on May 27, 2025, in Vernon, BC, at the age of 82 years.

Born on May 4, 1943, in Grande Prairie, AB, John grew up and spent most of his life in the area. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading western books, he also enjoyed his time participating and volunteering in the local tractor pulls with his Sassy Massey.

John worked along side his father in the family business at Gibney’s Landscaping, which he eventually took over. He later became a professional truck driver, then joined the Grande Prairie College as a Class 1 Driving Instructor. This led to him starting his own business, Start-Rite Driver Education, John enjoyed his time teaching others and loved to talk about the safety involved with the transportation industry. When John and Margaret sold the business in 2012, they decided to leave their beautiful acreage near Sexsmith, AB and in 2014 they moved to Enderby, BC to enjoy retirement in the beautiful North Okanagan.

John is survived by his wife Margaret, sister Dorothy, brother Bob (Juanita), stepchildren Dan (Jaww), Colleen (Ken), Travis (Carmin) and Ron (Dora); grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Pauline, brother Bill (Sharon), and sister Betty (Carl).

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the VJH for their care of John.

Cremation has taken place. No service will be held, as per his request.
