In Loving Memory

John Grant Young

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Grant Young on March 24, 2026.
John died peacefully at Jubilee Hospital in Vernon, British Columbia.
John was born in St. Thomas, Ontario to Jack and Muriel Young and grew up at the Aunor Mine property near Timmins, ON.
His youth was spent playing fast ball and hockey, leading to a hockey scholarship at Colorado College.

John began his career working underground at various mines in Northern Ontario, and retired in 2000 from Agnico Eagle Mines Silver Division as Mine Manager in Cobalt, ON.

John led an active lifestyle of baseball, boating and golf. For many years he was an avid Rotarian. In his retirement he enjoyed downhill skiing, cycling and golfing. He was a member of the Vernon Outdoors Club. He also volunteered for Okanagan Quality Life Society, taking seniors out on the Heaven Can Wait boat excursions.

He was generous, loyal, a great team player and a family man. His younger brother Jim writes: “John when I watch the Canadians, I think of Jean Beliveau and what a great leader he was. You remind me so much of him, tall, strong, tough and such a gentleman. This family team of Youngs is so lucky to have you as our leader”.

John was predeceased by his parents, his son Bradley and brothers Robert and D’Arcy.

John is survived by his wife Lynne (Cherry)Young, daughter Kathy (Chris) Hollick of Florence, AZ and brothers Earl (Joanne)Calgary, AB, Rick (Margo) Timmins, ON, Jim (Kelly) South Porcupine, ON, Tom (Audrey) Calgary, AB and their families as well as by his daughter in-law Sandy Young, Kalispell, MT
