Ian Walter Scargill
November 30, 1944 - September 21, 2026
In Loving Memory
Ian Walter Scargill
Ian Walter Scargill passed away on September 21st, 2026, at age 81. Ian was born in Wombwell Yorkshire, England on November 30th, 1944, and immigrated to Canada with his family to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1947.
An avid “hot rodder” Ian always loved cars and worked in the automotive industry as his profession in sales and as a business owner. Ian met his wife in 1966, and they were married on October 21, 1967. Both had a dream to move to the beautiful Okanagan, which they did good on, and where their daughter, Roberta, was born and raised.
Ian lived as an honorable man, with great integrity, maintained a positive attitude, shared empathy for others. Known too for his wit and good humor, Ian seemed to always have a story for any occasion!
He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially to Mexico where they shared many wonderful memories together. Ian was also adored by his grandchildren who loved time with their grandpa doing various activities.
An Accomplished Toastmaster, and a Grand Knight, with the Knights of Columbus, St. James Catholic Church, Ian was dedicated to positive communication and social justice.
Ian truly believed in the Golden Rule of treating others how you wish to be treated and demonstrated this through his own interactions. We will miss his wise and pragmatic advice and wonderful memories demonstrating small acts of kindness towards others.
Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Rose Scargill, and sister, Norma and brother-in-law, Charlie Dobra, Ian leaves behind his wife Barbara, daughter Roberta (Joe) Gardner, and grandchildren, Victoria & William, and nephews Bob (Donna) Dobra, Bill Dobra (Kandas), Ian Bruce Dobra, and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held on October 2nd, 2026, 1:30pm at St. James Catholic Church 2607 27 St, Vernon, BC V1T 4W1.

Barbara and family
My deepest condolences in the loss of Ian, although it’s been many years since I have seen you all. I have very fond memories of you bothcoming into our dry cleaning business for many years. Ian always had a smile on his face and had something positive and nice to say. Perhaps a little joke, comment or just some advice. I just remember him being very kind. Please know that I think of you and your family at this time.
