In Loving Memory
Frith John Powell

Frith John Powell of Kamloops, passed away on March 7th, 2026 at 77 years of age surrounded by family.
Frith is survived by his wife of 53 years Sheila Powell, his children: Howard (Stephanie) Powell of Fredericton, NB, Scott (Kirsten) Powell of Kamloops, BC, and Sebastian (Michelle) Powell of Cochrane, AB, Grand Children; Liam, Emily, Bentley, Rykker, Weston, Peyton and Avery, and his sister Dilys Balchin of England.
Born in England, he carried with him a quiet curiosity about the world that would shape the course of his life. As a teenager, he met his future wife, Sheila, on a stream train while they were both still in high school—a chance encounter that grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventure.
He later attended university in Brighton, where he pursued his studies and began laying the foundation for a career in technology. In 1980, he made the life-changing decision to move his family to Canada, where he built both a home and a lasting legacy.
Over a distinguished 31-year career in computer software, he contributed his skills and insight to a rapidly evolving industry. Among his proudest professional experiences was working with IBM in support of the Olympic Games, an opportunity that reflected both his expertise and dedication.
Outside of his professional life, he found joy in the outdoors and in quiet challenges of the mind. He loved cycling along scenic routes, hiking forested trails, and snowshoeing through winter landscapes. On quieter days, he could often be found happily absorbed in a Sudoku puzzle.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful mind, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will take place April 5, 2026 from 2-4pm at the Hal Rogers Centre in Kamloops.

I am sorry for the loss of Frith and the billion things that vanished on the day Frith’s heart stopped beating.
And I’m sorry for the billion things that you must grieve every single day.
And I’m sorry that there isn’t a better word than just sorry.
My heart hurts for your loss.
I am so, so sorry for you and your family’s loss. May he rest in peace. I often reflect on seeing (& hearing) a owl in the wild in the Kamloops area while on a club hike. He and I took a different way UP to meet you and others at the TOP. It was the first time I’d seen an owl in this area.
Shocking news… I am so very sorry to hear of Frith’s passing. Frith was a truly amazing, kind, funny, and beautiful human being. It was my honour to have hiked and cycled with him over the years.
My dear Sheila and family. It is with a heavy heart that I’m sending my sincere condolences. Much love to you all as you get through this difficult time. 😔 💔

My deepest condolence. I remember the first time I met Frith. He was wearing a sign that said “my name if Frith”. I worked in HR at Harbor and knew the name and then I had a face to put with it.
He was special and will be missed greatly by ihis family.
May he rest in peace.
Connie
My deepest condolences to Sheila and the family. I was employee #5 at Harbor, and Frith was employee #7. I remember Frith well for his calm demeanor and his positive outlook on life. He was one of my favourite people at Harbor, and it was a privilege to have been able to call him a colleague. Rest in peace, Frith…
Val and I are thinking about your family. Frith was such a wonderful person. I have so many great memories of Frith back in his Olympic and Harbor days. We have lost a good one.
Sad news. Frith was always a pleasure to work with, he always stayed calm in a crisis and never lost his temper, just got the work done well.

Sheila, we’re thinking of you and your family, and of your great loss.
We fondly remember Frith, with his quiet, steady presence and attentiveness. At work and at play.
We enjoyed our conversations with you both, with tales of the Olympics as well as our shared fondness for folk music festivals, and of Loreena McKennett.
May you hold on to your wonderful memories, and to his essence.
Well met, Frith.
Shelia and family we are all so sorry to hear of your sudden loss.
Frith was always such a quiet friendly person.
The pain doesn’t go away you just take it slowly with you.
We wish you peace and love with your family during this time and going forward.
We think of you both so fondly as you welcomed us to Leisure Lake over 25 years ago. Sheila, we are sorry to hear of the loss of Frith, it’s tragic.
