It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doug Schunter at the age of 74.

Doug lived a life defined by hard work, family, and the land he loved. A logger in the community for decades, he was known for his strong work ethic, willingness to lend a hand, and deep appreciation for the outdoors. After his years in the logging industry, he devoted himself to cattle farming, a passion that remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Doug was predeceased by his wife, Linda Schunter, his son, Gerry Schunter, and his parents, Bill & Hazel Shunter. 

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Anita Schunter, and by his children; Chad, Shelly [Stuart] Brodie, Terry Lynn [Brad] Andres, Garet [Paula] Leger, Drew [Liane] Leger, daughter-in-law April & step-children Danielle [Carson] Halvorson, Sadie [Mark] Dixson & Christina Chase. Grandchildren; Tjaden [Natasha], Drake, Hazel, Spencer, Preston, Meagan [Jordan], Tyler, Shepard, Reverly, Claire, Marissa, Walker & Adrian. Great grandchildren; Ivryn, Scottie & Warren. Brothers; Ron [Verna] & Rick [Christine] and their families. 

Doug’s greatest pride was his family. He lived with quiet strength, determination and a generous heart. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, resilience and love that will continue through the generations that follow him. Doug, we’ll keep checking on the cows for you. 

A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society (3506 27th Ave, Vernon). Take a moment to spend time with those you love & enjoy the outdoors—just as Doug would have wanted.
