In Loving Memory

Donald Robert Moor

In Loving Memory of Donald Robert Moor November 7, 1935 – May 24, 2024

Born in Alsask, Saskatchewan, Don was the second son of Russell and Mildred Moor. At the age of five, he moved with his family to a farm in the Lansdowne area of Armstrong, B.C. He was a spunky student who challenged belief systems, excelled academically, and loved sports – especially soccer. From a young age, he showed mechanical creativity, famously building a helicopter and a tractor from scraps with friends.

Don graduated as valedictorian of Armstrong High and went on to study philosophy at UBC, later earning a PhD from Berkeley. He spent over 40 years as a professor at Portland State University, where he met his beloved wife, Marilyn Engdahl, and became a loving stepfather to her son, Scott.

After retiring, he returned to Armstrong, where he enjoyed farming, gardening, tinkering with his barn-full of motorcycles, playing hockey, and early morning coffee with friends at A&W. He authored two books, Coffee with Plato and An Interview with Plato.

Don was also involved in the Armstrong community. He was a founding member of the Haugen Community Healthcare Society and an active member of the Armstrong Rotary Club and the Okanagan Historical Society.

Don will be remembered for the kindness he showed to absolutely everyone, his love of storytelling and conversation, and his inclination to turn a simple question into a philosophical journey.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, stepson Scott (Stefie), granddaughter Sadie, sister Kay (Tony), brother Gordon, nieces and nephew – Sue, Jane, Steve, Sharon, Cathy – and many dear friends, including Juli Nordstrom.

When asked on his deathbed how he would like to be remembered, he said one word – “LUCKY!”
