Albert Henrik Berg, known affectionately as Al to his friends and family, lived a full and vibrant life until he passed on June 5, 2025, in Vernon, BC, at the age of 85. Born on July 26, 1939, in Brooks, Alberta, Al grew to be a pillar of his community, a devoted family man, and a beacon of kindness to all who knew him.
Al built a successful career in the insurance industry where he was an integral part of S&P Insurance in Armstrong BC for over two decades, dedicating many years to helping others secure their futures. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his passion for giving back to the community. Al was an avid volunteer, particularly within the world of minor hockey. He rose to the rank of President of the Armstrong Spallumcheen Minor Hockey Association then President of Okanagan Mainline Amateur Hockey Association. His enthusiasm and leadership culminated in his serving as the President of BC Amateur Hockey Association, a role that let him travel around the world as an ambassador of the sport he loved. His tireless efforts contributed to the sport at the grassroots level and touched the lives of countless young athletes. Al was recognized for his contributions to the development and growth of the sport receiving the Amateur Hockey Administration Award as part of his volunteer recognition.
Beyond his professional and volunteer achievements, Al was a man who cherished his time spent bowling, a hobby that brought him much joy and friendly competition. However, his greatest joy was found in the company of his beloved family. He is survived by his wife, Elsa Berg, and their children: Kara Kazimer (Jason), Troy Berg (Cheryl), and Kory Berg (Ellen). Al’s legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Jordyn and Jessica Berg, Alex and Chelsea Kazimer, and Miles and Ryder Berg, all of whom he loved deeply. Al was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Elisabeth and Danielle, whom he treasured. Al was predeceased by his parents Henrik and Anna Berg as well as his younger brother Barry Berg. Al leaves behind two sisters, Adelina Petersen and Bernie Baynham as well as many nieces and nephews across the provinces. He had many friends and colleagues who remember him fondly.
Al’s life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and generosity. These qualities were the foundation of his character and were felt by everyone he encountered. He had the rare ability to lift spirits and spread warmth, making every individual feel valued and important. In the words of May Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Al embodied this sentiment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he met.
His family remembers Al’s life and the countless memories he created. We remember a man who was the epitome of love and the embodiment of kindness. Al’s generous spirit and unwavering support for his family and community will be dearly missed, but his influence will continue to be felt long after his passing.
As we bid farewell to Albert Henrik Berg, we reflect on a life well-lived, a journey marked by compassion and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. He has left us with a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire and guide us all. Rest in peace, Al; your memory will forever be a blessing to us.
It was Al’s wish to not have a formal service at this time and he knows his family will cherish his memory continually celebrating his life with love, laughter, and light at family and friend get togethers.
