Winnifred Lorraine Nielsen
September 29, 1932 - December 7, 2023
In Loving Memory
Winnifred Lorraine Nielsen
With sadness, the family of Winnifred Lorraine Nielsen announce her passing at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Dec. 7, 2023.
Lorraine was born to Alexander and Georgia Micone of Madison, New Jersey on September 29, 1933. She married Paul Nielsen on September 29, 1951. The wedding had to be moved forward by several weeks as Paul, who was serving in the armed forces was being sent to serve in California. After his time in the forces was up, the young couple returned to Whippany, N.J. and lived there until 1960 when they moved to Dunster, B.C.
Paul and Lorraine farmed in the Robson Valley for 36 years where they raised their family of 5 children. They retired to Osoyoos in 1996. After Paul’s passing Lorraine remained in Osoyoos until 2016, then moved to Armstrong to be closer to her daughter Gail.
Mom was a vibrant and energetic woman who was fully involved in her community. For many years she and her group of ladies in Dunster would sew and raffle a community quilt. This quilt was coveted by many people from near and far and was an excellent fundraiser in the community. All of her children were the lucky recipients of a crazy quilt that she made and embroidered with love.
Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, brothers Alexander and Amadeus, husband Paul, son Tim and sister-in-law Elsie Nielsen. She is survived by her sister Helen (Frank Remski), children Chris (Laurie), Tom (Iris), Gail, Clint (Monica), grandchildren Lee, Steven, Lance, Laurence, Landon, Morris and Kim. Twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be missed.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

My sincere condolences to all family members. I visualize the lazy curve of the Fraser River, murmuring a tune of fond remembrance for the precious years when Lorraine walked along its shoreline. May the memories released by the unfolding of past years, be a lasting comfort to you all.
