In Loving Memory

Thomas Thornton Brown

It is with deep sadness we share the passing of our father and grandfather, Thomas (Tom) Brown, at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on May 15, 2025.

Born in Syracuse New York and spending much of his childhood in Cheltenham England, Tom moved to Canada in his late teens with his brother Bob. Tom started work as a draftsman in Toronto, Ontario, and spent his career with Bregman and Hammond Architects. In his free time, Tom loved to explore Canada; one of his adventures being a cross-country road trip in his Austin Healey.

Ever the avid sportsman, Tom met his beautiful wife Donelda through the High Park ski club. They were married in 1960, and with two children, Susan and Mike, their family was complete. Tom later enjoyed being a grandpa to his 4 grandchildren: Mitchell, Lindsay, Ella and Liam.

Tom and Donelda made their initial home in Toronto, before moving to a small property outside Tottenham Ontario and then settling in Owen Sound, Ontario upon retirement.

Tom had many interests including marathon running. He completed the Toronto marathon at the age of 52, placing second in the 50+ category. He was also a talented watercolour/pen and ink artist and enjoyed wood carving.

In his later years, Tom spent many enjoyable summers at a cottage he and Donelda owned on the shores of Lake Huron, just south of Tobermory Ontario.

In 2016 Tom made his move to Armstrong BC where he lived out his final years exploring BC and enjoying the company of his family. Friends and neighbours would often see him out for his daily walk in the community.
