In Loving Memory
Thomas Parker
The family of Tom Parker are heartbroken to announce his passing in Vernon Jubilee Hospital just as the sun was setting on December 5, 2022, at the age of 91, surrounded by family. Tom is survived by his loving wife Vicki, daughters Linda and Janine (Dennis), grandchildren Tyler, Marisa (Jordan) and Nick (Olivia), his sister Linda, close family friend Deb, and several extended family members. He is predeceased by his brother Bill and sisters Thelma, Peggy and Carol.
Tom was born in 1931 in Vancouver, one of six children. Vicki describes him as a “fiery redhead” when they met in 1957 who wouldn’t back down from a fight. This is far from how his children and grandchildren remember him as a peaceful, although very stubborn, man!
In his younger years, Tom was appreciated for his singing voice. Friends would request songs like The Shifting Whispering Sands, and his daughters learned all of the words to songs like Jamaica Farewell and King of the Road at a very early age.
Tom lived in the Lower Mainland for 70+ years before moving to Vernon to be closer to his grandchildren. Before his first grandchild was born and he was asked what he wanted to be called, his answer was “Mr. Parker”, but it didn’t take him long to become “Papa”. His grandchildren remember him cheering on the sidelines of every soccer, hockey, basketball and volleyball game. He was quick-witted with a dry sense of humour, always one to make a joke or a sarcastic comment.
Despite Tom’s declining health in recent years, with loss of hearing and vision, we are so happy that he was able to live independently at home with Vicki until his last days.
We would like to thank the paramedics and the ER doctors and nurses at Vernon Jubilee Hospital for their thoughtfulness and care during this difficult time.
