Family and friends are saddened to announce the passing of Sylvia, on February 15, 2026 at the age of 79. Born and raised in Shelburne NS, the eldest of three children to parents, Ralph and Alice (Atwood) Halliday. Surviving her are a sister, Cheryl, in Dartmouth, NS and a brother, Ralph jr. (Marg) in Cambridge, ON as well as a niece, nephew, grandniece and several cousins.

Following graduation from Bridgewater commercial school, Sylvia’s career spanned 35 years in hospital medical offices and administrative positions throughout NS, NB and ON. She also worked privately as a medical transcriptionist for a variety of medical specialists.

With a passion for photography, her greatest pleasures came from traveling to England, Europe, Scandinavia, Bermuda, parts of Canada and New England. After visiting friends in Vernon, BC, Sylvia was impressed with the beauty of the Valley and the climate, which influenced her decision to return to Vernon on retirement in 2000. There she made several great friendships, still maintaining contact with special friends in NS and ON.

Honoring her request, there will be no formal service, with final arrangements entrusted to Cypress Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Vernon. If desired, memorial donations would be appreciated to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 27^th Ave, Vernon, BC V1T 1S4, any local food bank or charity of choice.
