In Loving Memory

Sisko Hamer-Jackson

With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of Sisko Hamer-Jackson, who passed peacefully to join her beloved husband, Jack, who has been waiting patiently on a bright star they both cherished in the sky.  Sisko’s warmth, laughter, and boundless spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, known to be feisty and fun memories will shine brightly in our hearts forever.

Born on May 31, 1943, in Finland to Hilja and Nestor Peurajokki (Renwall), Sisko was one of nine siblings who embarked on an adventurous journey as young children, immigrating to the close-knit community of Sointula, BC. Alongside her six sisters—Terry, Raili, Merry, Rita, Susan, and Marget—and two brothers, Bill and Vesa.

As a teenager, Sisko ventured to Vancouver, where she met the love of her life, Jack Hamer-Jackson. Their 54 years of marriage were filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Together, they raised two devoted sons, Rick and Brad, and later welcomed 3 adored grandchildren—Hope, Sam, Alley, when Brad and Tammy married then her cherished  Ella—born to Brad and Tammy. Sisko, a proud “Mummu,” delighted in showering her grandchildren with  interesting gifts and cherished memories around the Lakehouse.

Sisko’s zest for life was infectious. In North Vancouver, on Edgewater Lane, she formed lifelong friendships that brought her and Jack joy and camaraderie for many decades.  In the late 1990s, Sisko and Jack made their permanent home at their beloved “Lakehouse” on Wood Lake in the Okanagan, a place that became a haven for gatherings, laughter, and countless shared moments with friends old and new.

Known as the life of every party, Sisko had a gift for bringing people together. Whether setting a beautiful table aglow with candles, playing lively card games, or sharing stories over a glass of fine wine or a stiff Scotch, she created an atmosphere of warmth and celebration. Her passions for antiquing and travel with Jack took them on countless adventures, each one adding to a treasure trove of goodies that would later be bargained for the Lakehouse garage.

Sisko faced her final days with the same bravery and that defined her life, comforted by the love of those who had the chance to say goodbye. To those who couldn’t, she left a heartfelt message: “See you when you get upstairs!” Her greatest wish was to be reunited with Jack, and she passed peacefully, her heart full, knowing she was on her way to him.

Sisko’s memory will continue to shine through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, humor, and dedication to those she enjoyed spending time with.

In lieu of flowers, any donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada,

Please honor Sisko by raising a glass, lighting a candle, or cracking a deck of cards to celebrate the beautiful life of a woman who made every moment a memory . She will be dearly missed but forever remembered as a great friend, sister , auntie, mom, grandmother and devoted wife!
