In Loving Memory
Serina Gubbels
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sue Gubbels (nee Pelham) at Hospice House in Vernon with her family and best friend by her side.
She will be deeply missed by her children Luke (Heather) and Genevieve (Shawn), her grandchildren Caleb, Camille and Evan, many dear friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband John in 2010.
Sue was born in Worthing England and obtained her nursing diploma and midwifery certification there. Her adventurous spirit brought her to Canada in her early 20’s where she worked in remote communities in northern Ontario. She met her husband John on a sailboat in Greece and they travelled and worked in Africa together for 2 years. They moved to BC and eventually settled in Armstrong to raise their two children.
In her nursing career, Sue filled many roles, obtained her master’s degree while working full time and retired in 2007 as Administrator of Long Term Care for the North Okanagan.
Sue was an active person who loved camping with her family and close friends, travelling to many countries of the world and walking the beaches and trails wherever she journeyed. Her adventurous spirit was evident when she parachuted from a plane on her 50th birthday, rafted through the Grand Canyon, rode camels in India and explored remote areas of Haida Gwaii, Vietnam and many other beautiful places. In retirement Sue enjoyed her bridge and book clubs, walked many miles, spent winter sojourns in Baja and made countless other trips with friends and family.
Sue was a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, a loyal friend and a talented, artistic, accomplished woman who will be missed so much by so many.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the North Okanagan Hospice Society. A private celebration of life will be held in the summer.

My dear cousins Genevieve and Luke.
You have my deepest condolences on the loss of your dear mother.
Both Auntie Sue and Uncle Johnny were such wonderful people and it is so hard to lose them.
It’s hard to know what to say and it’s hard to go through this time of life with our heartbreaking losses of those so special to us.
I would hug you if I were with you.
Jayeson and I hope to see you again sometime soon.
We wish you well.
