Roy Scott McMurray

September 5, 1951 - November 29, 2024

In Loving Memory

Roy Scott McMurray

Our loving father, Roy Scott McMurray of Armstrong, BC, was suddenly taken from us at the age of 73, on November 29th, 2024.

Roy was born to Neil and Iris (Whittington) in New Westminster, BC, on September 5th, 1951.  After spending his early childhood in Surrey, BC, his family moved the Okanagan Valley to a farm in Armstrong.  It was here he discovered his passion of equestrianism, which inevitably led to him acquiring a small acreage on Rose Swanson Mountain to raise his horses.  He soon met his future wife, Sandra (Hubbard) at an auction.  After they married, they raised their children on the small horse farm.  One of Roy’s many joys were sharing his equestrianism with his children.  Another, being fortunate to have raised two generations of fouls on his land. The second foul, Hollywood Diamond, still lives on today.

Roy’s spirit will live on in those to whom he is survived: his son, Darren (wife Charlotte) McMurray; his daughter, Rhonda McMurray; and his four grandchildren: Malyk Eli, Elora Aubriana, Elise Isabelle, and Abigail Grace. And his siblings: Carol (husband Gordon) Surkan; Wayne (wife Barbara) McMurray; and his many nieces and nephews and their children.

Roy was a mountain man.  He found the forest provided him with peace and rejuvenation.  With respect for his spirit, his family and close friends will have an intimate celebration of life on his farm.  The date and time to be released later.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know you don’t know me, but I was Roy’s farrier for the past 21+ years. My thoughts are with his family at this time.

  4. Kenneth Finstad says:

My condolences to your family during this difficult time. Roy and I rode our motorcycles together for the couple of years before our High School grad in 1970. As well we had a number of classes together. So haven’t seen him in almost 55 years. Since I moved back to this area a number of years ago I often thought of Roy as I would drive by the road across from the Plywood plant and wondered where he was. I remember him as a good friend and I can understand your many great memories the family has of him.

  5. Carol Monk says:

Just wondering if this is Roy that I worked with at BC Hydro. Even if not, my condolences to your family.
