In Loving Memory
Rose Barcichowski

Rose Solowy was born in Wakaw, Saskatchewan on December 14, 1929. She had one older brother named Lloyd, and they grew up on a small farm with their own animals and grew crops for sale. When the kids were young, the family moved to Edmonton for better work opportunities. Rose finished school after grade 8 and went to work to help the family. She had two jobs, one at a restaurant and the other at a dry cleaners. Even though Rose only finished grade 8, she learned a lot about running a business at the dry cleaners and had many business responsibilities.
When she was 22, Rose met Steve Barcichowski through friends. Steve was from Poland and was resettled to Canada after WWII. The couple married and continued to live in Edmonton.
Rose and Steve were quite entrepreneurial and very hard-working. They owned an apartment building and then a house with extra rooms they let out to acquaintances. After Edmonton, they moved to Lesser Slave Lake and ran a mink ranch for 12 years. They then moved to Salmon Arm, where, once again, they owned an apartment building and had renters. Later, they bought a house on South Broadview and loved hosting visitors. After a time, they found the hilliness of Salmon Arm difficult, so they moved to Armstrong to enjoy retirement.
For many years, Rose and Steve went to Mexico for two weeks in the winter. Sadly, Rose lost Steve in 2009, after 57 years of marriage. Rose was wonderfully social and enjoyed reading, puzzles and visiting.

I know she has no family left but my condolences to all her friends that knew her she was a great lady
She was like a second mom to us and we miss her dearly.
I will miss her laughter and smile. She truly was a wonderful, loving and talented woman. She was like my second mom. Enjoyed many summers with her and Steve out at Slave Lake, helping on the mink ranch. So many memories. You will truly be missed.
