In Loving Memory
Peter Sawchuk
SAWCHUK, Peter – aged 61 years, passed peacefully in his home on January 23rd with his loved ones by his side. Sadly, he lost his eight-year battle with cancer after being deemed a “medical marvel” for his remarkable resilience.
Peter was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on August 7th, 1961. He grew up as a hard-working farm boy who also enjoyed working on cars and snowmobiling with his dad. He graduated from Sheldon High in 1979; from there he traveled to Australia and eventually found himself settling in Vancouver. While in Vancouver, he worked at the popular honky-tonk Carlos n’ Buds where he started dating the love of his life Jodi. Peter was known for his 6”8’ stature, which matched his larger-than-life personality full of wit, sarcasm and his razor-sharp sense of humour. Peter loved sports and was an avid baseball and basketball fan. His true love was the Montreal Expos but when the franchise moved elsewhere, he settled for the Toronto Blue Jays. Peter had a lengthy career as a district manager for Starbucks which eventually led him and his family to Calgary in 1999. He was a stellar and loyal employee who was very well respected and loved by customers, coworkers and management alike.
Peter is survived by his wife Jodi and his children Haylee (Brooke Gagne) and Sam (Claire Cameron), brother Terry Sawchuk, predeceased by his parents Peter Sr. and Doris Sawchuk (nee Boan). Peter is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Peter’s life on Saturday, February 4th in Kelowna, BC, details of the event to follow.
