In Loving Memory
Penny Margaret Taylor (nee McKeown)
Penny Margaret Taylor (nee McKeown) passed away on January 4th, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Penny was born on March 1st, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario to Wilf and Dorothy McKeown. Penny grew up in the Montreal area and graduated from John Rennie High School in 1962. Recognizing her calling at the young age of 17, Penny went to study nursing at the Royal Victoria School of Nursing in Montreal.
Over Penny’s 45-year career, she practiced nursing at the Calgary Foothills Hospital, Armstrong General Hospital, the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, PRN Home Health Care, and with the Armstrong Community Care Team.
In 1973 Penny came to Armstrong to take on the Head Nurse position at the Armstrong General Hospital. Penny was an active member in the community over the years with the Kinettes Club, Kindale Developmental Association, and most passionately with The Haugen Community Healthcare Society to bring doctors to town, a cause she felt was crucial to the overall welfare of the community of Armstrong.
Penny loved travelling, gardening, skiing, knitting, quilting, practical jokes, and most of all being a Grandmother.
Penny will continued to be loved and missed by her husband Bob, her children and grandchildren, her brother Steve McKeown and all her family and friends. Penny was predeceased by her parents, Wilf and Dorothy McKeown.
As Penny hosted her own Celebration of Life party before she left us, there will be a memorial celebration in the spring for those who wish to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, Penny has asked that donations be made to The Haugen Community Healthcare Society at P.O. Box 495 Armstrong, B.C. V0E 1B0.
