Pauline Johnston (nee Zacharuk)

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Pauline Johnston on July 17, 2026, at the age of 94 in Vernon, BC with her loving family at her side.

Pauline was born May 16, 1932, at Lac Bellevue, AB to Harry and Anna Zacharuk and grew up on the family farm with her eight siblings.

She trained as a Nursing Aid in Edmonton, AB and upon graduation worked at hospitals in St. Paul, Hinton and Wainwright, AB. It was at Wainwright where she met her future husband, Ted and where they spent many years raising their family. Pauline loved camping and fishing and enjoyed many wonderful camping trips with her family.

Pauline and Ted moved to a small farm near Falkland, BC in 1989 where they had fond memories of the time they spent raising animals and tending their hay field and garden. They later moved to Armstrong, BC where Pauline volunteered with the Legion supporting the Wheels to Meals program. They moved to Vernon, BC in 2018.

Pauline will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 64 years, Ted; her sons, Gerry (Shirley) of Calgary, AB, and Jim (Rolande) of Beaumont, AB; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Kyle) Kowalchuk, Ashley (Justin) Kancsal, Rachelle (Greg) Steeves, Ryan Zawalusky (Lauren), JoDee Zawalusky (Rhett), and Kiana Johnston (Craig); her great-grandchildren, Maisie, Kayson, and Brynn; as well as her nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Pauline will be missed by all who knew her.

A graveside service is set to take place at the Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery (4320 Highland Park Rd Armstrong, BC) on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 11 am. Following the interment, there will a reception at Cypress Funeral & Cremation Services (2980 Smith Drive Armstrong, BC).
