In Loving Memory

Olive Brown

It is with heavy hearts we announce that on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, Olive Brown took her last breath while surrounded by loved ones at the Kelowna Hospice House. She so looked forward to shedding her earthly body and being in the presence of her Savior.

After a long and difficult battle with ALS, Olive has been set free from her burdens and gone on to be reunited with her husband, Jim Brown (2021) and her youngest son, Nathan Brown (1976). Olive was also predeceased by her father Harry (1985) and mother Erna (2018).

Olive was born on November 15th, 1947 in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan. The firstborn child of Harry and Erna Joyes, she was the eldest of seven children (siblings Andrew, Edwin, Ruth, Ken, Gayle and Edith).

Olive worked most of her life as an X-ray technician and Pastor’s wife, retiring from Prince George Regional Hospital in 2018 at the age of 71.  She continued to minister to many others for the remainder of her life.

Olive’s greatest passion in life was to serve others. She was always cooking, caring for, giving and doing for others. She had a huge heart for missions and spent much time organizing goods to be sent overseas. Olive loved music – playing the piano and organ and singing.  Other hobbies included sewing, cross stitch and reading.  Dozens of quilts sewn by Olive were sent overseas to those in need, which gave Olive great joy.

Olive is survived by her six siblings; Andrew (Helen), Edwin, Ruth, Ken (Donna), Gayle (Garry) and Edith (Steve); her sons, Jim (Crystal) and Owen (Carly); her grandchildren Mitchell (Carissa), Nathan, Maddisen (Marcus), Isaiah, Kerrianne, Jimmy, Elijah and Halle; and great grandchildren Silas, Milo and Rose. She is also survived by her “adopted” children.

Given that Olive touched many lives near and far, the family will be holding a memorial service in the spring 2024 when it is safer for all to travel to Kelowna. Details will be sent out once they become available.

Donations in Olive’s honour can be made to:

Black Buffalo Global Missions (Ugandan orphanage)

Donations should be designated to EV Mission BBGM.

Olive will be deeply missed by many near and far but we know we will see her again one day.

I first met Olive at my dad’s building when i was assisting my father at Gordon Park Housing. She was always a caring and thoughtful neighbor who frequently brought the seniors in the building healthy hot meals to their door. Also her husband Jim thoughtfully came to visit my father at brants creek home once he was no longer able to live on his own. Both Jim and Olive were stand up Christians who always walked the walk, always thinking of others before self. They touched a lot of hearts many. I am glad they are now reunited and grateful i met such fine people as them in my lifetime. They will both be greatly missed. Until we meet again my friends….. Many condolence to the family. …..Donna Fuller.

  7. Wally Benson says:

I got to know Olive in 2020, and was so impressed with all the work she did for others in and around our building, and all the stuff she collected to be sent to the needy in many countries. she was a very giving person and I am thankful to her and to God for the working relationship we had. I have to mention that when I had my heart attack in September 2022, Olive drove me to emergency, which I know was of God and her giving spirit. I could never thank her enough. Someday we will be together in heaven!
    Lovingly Wally
