In Loving Memory
Michael Hamilton Blaney

It is with deep sadness that we share about the passing of Michael Hamilton Blaney, loving brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and devoted husband.
Born in Vancouver British Colombia on September 8th, 1941, Mike spent his early years in Richmond British Columbia growing up with his brothers, Jim, Jack, Gerry, and David. Joining the Navy in February 1960 he went for training at HMCS Cornwallis in Nova Scotia. While in the Navy Mike struck up a friendship with Norman Hull the older brother of his future wife Sharon, whom he married in 1963. Together they built a wonderful life raising their children Christopher and Tracy and celebrating their love for over 63 years.
An avid and skilled handyman, Mike was well known for his ability to fix anything. Uncle Mike was always there to support his many nieces and nephews lending a helping hand, tool, or building advice. Generous and kind he consistently went out of his way to help the people he loved. In recent years, Mike and Sharon moved to Kamloops and settled in the community of Sun Rivers and made many new and meaningful connections that were very special and supportive to Mike.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Sharon, children Christopher (Tirtho) and Tracy (Ian), grandchildren Rachel, Kelly, India, Charlie, Hudson, great grandson Brisbane, his brothers and large extended family.
The family would like to thank Gina and Gib DeCap for their ongoing love and support for Mike over the past few years, and to the staff at Royal Inland Hospital 5 North for the kindness and care that they provided.
There will be no service by request but if so desired memorial donations in Michael’s name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I am so very proud to call Michael my brother. My own family recognizes the love and deep respect I had for Mike, and always will have. A good man, brave and caring.
My condolences to his and his wonderful wife Sharon’s families.
Gina, Gib and family. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to you on the passing of your brother in law. Take care, all our love. Wade and joyce
Next to Sharon and family Michael’s driving interests were politics and helping others. Michael twice ran for a seat in BC’s Legislative Assembly, for the Liberals when the NDP won a very large majority. Had Michael and the Liberals won there is no doubt that he would have been in cabinet–maybe even premier one day. His speeches were exceptional, filled with warmth, sincerity and humour.
You certainly would want Michael as your neighbour: he could fix almost anything and always sought things to fix. I had the good fortune of having Michael in my home for a couple of days and he made everything work as they should: cupboard doors were square; nothing squeaked; no cold air drifting in where it was unwanted.
Michael most of all loved Sharon, to his very last breath. We brothers loved him, too.
So sorry to say goodbye to Uncle Mike. Keeping Sharon, Tracy, Chris and family in my thoughts. ❤️
We met Sharon & Mike at the complex in Maui many years ago.
Many happy sunset watches, memories, and enjoyed watching for whales.
Both of them were always in great spirits and happy to see everyone.
Miss seeing the Maui group but will always cherish the friendship despite living in California and not seeing them in Maui.
Yes, Mike was always ready to help and so friendly & helpful throughout the Island get togethers.
So glad to have met Sharon & Mike and enjoyed being with them in Maui.
I’m heartbroken to hear about the loss of my friend, coworker, and mentor. His wisdom and kindness made a lasting impact on all of us.
My thoughts are with his family and all who knew him during this sorrowful time.”
Years ago I was trying to get a load of wood to gather to make something worthwhile. Then it dawned on me to just ask Mike who put it all together in minutes. He was very creative and intelligent and could do almost anything. Were all very sad to hear of his loss. Condolences to Sharon , Chris and Tracy and their families . Love from Jim
and Pauline, Scott and Brett.
