Michael Alan Barclay

Michael Alan Barclay, 72, passed away on December 2 in Armstrong, BC, surrounded by his family. Born in Victoria, BC in 1953 to John and Elizabeth Barclay, Michael grew up on a farm north of Sidney alongside his siblings, Ann, Janet and John.

He attended Deep Cove Elementary, Glenlyon School, Shawnigan Lake School, Queen’s University, the University of Victoria and Harvard University. A lifelong teacher, Michael had a deep love of learning and a gift for helping others learn.

His career took him around the world, with chapters in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Chile, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. After many years abroad, he returned to his beloved British Columbia.

Michael is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, James, Anna and Rissa; his four grandchildren, Ian, Logan, Cassidy and Phillip; as well as his siblings, Ann, Janet and John.

A private burial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
