Melvin Ira Nordstrom

The family of Melvin Nordstrom is saddened to announce his passing on April 28 at the age of 88.

He was born March 24, 1935, in Brownvale, Alberta to parents Bessie and Carl Nordstrom.  He was the youngest of his siblings and enjoyed a carefree life on the farm until his family moved to Armstrong. From there he graduated from school and took a job on the railway in Revelstoke.

He moved there with his new wife Judy and where they raised their children until they eventually moved to Vernon.   Melvin retired from the CPR railway after 35 years of service as a trainman.

After retiring Melvin helped organize the retired railway men’s lunches where lifelong friendships were made. Stories of the railway days were told over and over at the lunches.

After retiring Melvin and Judy enjoyed travelling all over the country in their motor home. They had so many memories of their trips and made good friends along the way.

Melvin is survived by his daughter Penny Nordstrom, son Chris Nordstrom, granddaughter Samantha Gallagher(Darren)  great grandson Clark, great-grandson Logan and grandson Bryce. He will also be missed by nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Predeceased by his wife Judy, grandson Mitchell  Gallagher,  brothers Lawrence and Norman, and sisters Lyla and Opal.   Parents Bessie and Carl Nordstrom. 

A special thank you to all the caring staff at Noric House for the attention Melvin received for the last couple of years. Also Dr. Gilhooly Melvin’s family doctor. 

A private service will be held at a later date.
