In Loving Memory

Margaret Von Hahn

Eveline Margaret Arthur was born Sept. 17, 1928 in Truro, Cornwall, England. Her early years were spent in the Truro area, with lasting special memories being made at her grandparent’s farm at Cotna. The difficult times of growing up during  WW2 in England included escaping uninjured from an enemy aerial bomb dropped on a beach that she was walking on.

Margaret graduated as an Occupational Therapist from Oxford University.  After immigrating to Canada in 1952, she met the love of her life, Paul von Hahn. They were married in Vancouver in 1954. She was one of the first Occupational Therapists in BC. Her lengthy career in Occupational Therapy encompassed hospital, community, and university settings as Lecturer, Clinician, and later Department Head at the Health Sciences Centre University Hospital in Winnipeg. An accomplished musician in both cello and piano, a Master Weaver, Tai Chi exercise leader, fly fisher, cross country skier, outdoor and tennis enthusiast, active participant in her churches, advocate for the Alzheimer Society, and world traveler with husband Paul, she did it all.

Margaret and Paul raised their 3 children in Winnipeg, then retiring to Carrs Landing on Okanagan Lake in the mid 1980’s. They enjoyed a busy, happy, active retirement, with Mom exploring creative interests through her weaving studio. In 2007 Margaret decided it was time to enjoy the ‘Sweet life’ and moved to Holiday Park in Winfield on the shores of Duck Lake.  2020 saw the next move to Heaton Place Retirement Community in Armstrong, which Margaret described as a ‘5 Star’ all inclusive resort!  A final journey was made to Polson Extended Care in Dec. 2022, passing away peacefully Feb.7 2023.  Cornish strength to the end.

Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul in 2001.  She is survived by her son Peter (Nairn) and their family Hannah (Steve and Linden), Rachel (Joe), Elli, Micky (Bri), Natalie (Drew). Daughter Karen (Meredith) and their family Zarah (Elowen and Eden), Rebekkah (Josh), Katie (Mike, Camryn and Jeremiah), Daniel (Dana). Daughter Susan (Ted) and their family Dianne (Christopher), Derek (Justine, Linden and Selwynn), Evan(Sara).

The family extends sincere gratitude to the staff at Heaton Retirement Residence in Armstrong, and Polson Extended Care in Vernon for their wonderful support and genuine care of Margaret.  A family celebration of her amazing life will be held this summer 2023 at Peter and Nairn’s farm in Armstrong. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, in Margaret’s memory, is appreciated and enduring.
