Kenny.
Annie’s middle child came home today on his 80th birthday after suffering long and hard with cancer and stage 5 kidney disease.
He was born and raised on a hardscrabble farm south of Revelstoke where he learned the fine art of working hard for survival. He quit school at age 15 to go and work in a sawmill and then progressed to logging, and heavy construction at Mica Creek. He also became a lumber grader, a driller blaster and a first aid man. Ken began working for BC Hydro construction in 1975 and was employed there for 31 years. He and Jenny then spent the rest of his retirement building a place on Arrow Lakes where family and friends could gather together and make memories to last a lifetime.
Ken leaves behind his loving wife Jenny, son Brett (Robyn), daughters Melissa (Jason) and Michelle, along with many wonderful grandchildren and great grandchildren. His siblings Patricia Douglas, Robert Douglas, and Joan Douglas.
Ken always was an avid reader and a very creative writer and he was dedicated to preserving the history of the area where he grew up and some people even called him the unofficial mayor of Sidmouth.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
There will be no official last service as per his wishes.
Life
I Fell down on my knees on the gravel road and cried bitter tears that formed a small puddle; and in the puddle I saw the reflection of the little boy I once had been so long-ago. I searched among the stones of my memories that lay about, but when I picked them up they melted and disappeared. In frustration and anger I scrabbled about until my knees were bleeding and I shouted at the sky “Why me? Why me?” In the silence of the night when the echo of my words had faded away, I felt a heavy presence slowly surround me and a quiet voice said “Fear not”, and peacefulness settled around me. And held me in its arms.

I regret not being able to get out to visit you more…. Life.
But I am so grateful for the times I was able to, thank you for the memories out at Shelter Bay and other times of family gatherings throughout the years.
You will be missed Uncle Ken. Cheers to having lived well through the good and tough times in your corner of the world 🍻

I am saddened to learn of Ken’s passing. I have known Ken since 1973. Always enjoyed Ken’s keen sense of humour and his insight.
