In Loving Memory
James William (Bill) Willment
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James William (Bill) Willment on July 5, 2023. Bill passed at home in Armstrong after a lengthy, brave, and courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born to William and Hany Willment on February 28, 1938, in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.
Bill grew up on a farm in the Southminster district helping in fields and around the farm as well as enjoying duck hunting in the fall, riding his horse, and hanging out with neighbourhood friends. As an adult he worked on the oil wells around Lloydminster for several years and later moved to BC where he remained. He worked at a variety of jobs in BC until taking a job at the Armstrong Dairyland Cheese Plant where he worked for 26 years until he retired in Dec 1999.
Bill was an avid and accomplished curler having started at a young age at the local curling rink. He went onto many competitions and bonspiels with his father, neighbours and friends on the prairies winning several trophies over the years. He continued curling for some years in BC as well and passed on the love of the sport to his eldest son.
Bill was a quiet man who had an infectious laugh and a quiet twinkle in his eye. He was a real home body enjoying puttering about his home. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing crib, a game he learned and shared with his dad. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. He got along with anyone who knew him and had a few very close friends who held a special place in his heart.
Bill was preceded in death by his father William, mother Hany, and son Rob.
Bill leaves behind his grieving family; wife Darlene of 40 years, Son Doug (Rhonda) Willment; Son Rob’s children grandson Trevor, granddaughter Danyka; Son Mark (Janet) Willment, grandson Taylor, granddaughters Mak and Bri; Stepson Lee Harrison, grandson Shawn (Mel), granddaughter Syd (Chris); Stepson Clint (Lisa) granddaughters Jordyn, Nyah, Halle; One sibling his younger sister Judy Byer.
