In Loving Memory

Gregory Joseph Bayliss

It is with much heartache that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Gregory Joseph Bayliss.

Greg left us to be with his loved ones in Heaven on May 6, 2025 at just 42 years young. He struggled for many years with Mental Health challenges, which sadly ended his life.

Greg was our firstborn – a big brother to Lynette Lindemann (brother-in-law to Ben Lindemann), Chantel Brown (brother-in-law to Tyler Brown), Richard Bayliss (sister-in-law to Celine Bayliss). He was an uncle to Emery, Arlo, Avia and Rhys. He leaves behind his birth son, Finlay Alan, 11 years old. His loss is deeply felt by his numerous cousins, aunties, uncles and friends.

Greg felt most at peace in the wilderness. He saw beauty in all of nature – mountains, lakes, trees and flowers. He had so many adventures – tree planting up north, driving across Canada to see the Atlantic Ocean, working up near Whitehorse, fishing of the shores of Ucluelet, going to the Blue Jays game and Niagara Falls with his Dad and little brother, experience Mexico with his parents and even ran a marathon with his sister Lynette.

Being a lover of animals, he related to the lone wolf’s independence and the black bear’s quiet power, finding pieces of himself in their untamed spirit. Growing up and into adulthood, he was surrounded by pets that played a huge part in his life: dogs, cats, ferrets, fish, birds, hamsters, turtles, a bearded dragon and the mice. Mama drew the line at the mice – they went back to the store.

Greg had a big heart, from giving his last dollar to a stranger on the street to helping the homeless at Christmas. He worried deeply for his family, only wanting happiness and health for them. He was especially proud of his siblings and left this world knowing they were in a good place.

Greg was so smart. He especially loved history and religions. From the time he could talk, he always asked “Why?” He needed to understand the world – past, present and future. He read and learned about things far beyond what most would even think about.

Greg had a tattoo that read in Latin: “Luctor et Emergo – I Struggle and Emerge.” He did that many times until his struggle became to much to bear.

It gives us comfort that Greg came to Church not long ago and accepted Jesus as his Savior.

He left behind a ring with the inscription:

“Vitriol et mors non separabit – What virtue has joined together, death shall not separate.”

Till we meet again little buddy,

Later.

We love you, always and forever, your family

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at the Okanagan Baptist Church in Vernon, BC Friday May 16th at 11:00 am.
