In Loving Memory

Gladys Veronica Richards

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Veronica Richards, who left us peacefully on November 7, 2025, at the age of 91.

Gladys was born on March 11, 1934, in the Peace Region of Alberta, where she grew up surrounded by family, community, and the values that shaped her into the thoughtful, kind, and hardworking woman she became. She carried those values throughout her entire life. Whether she was raising her children, helping a neighbour, or greeting a visitor at her door, Gladys led with generosity and love.

She married her beloved husband, Kae Richards, and together they embraced a life full of adventure. Kae’s work in the oil patch opened the door to a world of travel, and Gladys embraced it wholeheartedly. Over the years they lived in England, Scotland, Norway, Australia, Egypt, Thailand, and Singapore—collecting memories, friendships, and stories that she cherished for the rest of her life.

In 1985, they returned home to settle in Grindrod, later moving to Sleepy Hollow in Armstrong. Their home was filled with life: strawberries in the garden, galahs and pheasants on the property, loyal springer spaniels at their feet, and grandchildren often in their arms. Gladys adored her family, and her home was a gathering place where everyone was welcome.

Gladys had a remarkable heart for community. She devoted 30 years to volunteering at the Armstrong Bargain Bin (Armstrong Spallumcheen Healthcare Auxiliary), where she became a familiar and cherished face. She also proudly participated in the Pioneer Power Club and supported the Legion. Her commitment to helping others was one of the defining marks of her life.

Gladys is survived by her husband Kae Richards, her sister Shiela (Boyd) Love (Lance), and her children: Brian Gordey (Verna), Kerry Gordey (Melody), Lonnie Richards (Debbie), Jackie Stewart, and Diana Kozak. She leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her two sisters: older sister Marion Field and younger sister Yukola McKinnon.

Gladys will be remembered for her gentle soul and her many passions—sewing, antiques, chocolates made in the kitchen with her grandchildren, playing Scrabble, and completing countless puzzles with patience and joy.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring, with details to follow.
