In Loving Memory

Gerald Almaas

Gerald’s family is heartbroken to announce that he passed away at Vernon Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2023 surrounded by his loved ones.

Gerald was born to Jorgen & Josie Almaas on the homestead in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan interrupting Christmas dinner. Growing up he was the middle child with three brothers and three sisters and they moved to Enderby in the mid-forties. Gerry excelled in music and sports, not so much in academics. As a young man his one passion was hockey and he was proud of being a member of the championship winning Grindrod Elks. He also loved to play baseball and in later years it was golf. He treasured the lifelong friendships that he made during these times.

Music was central to his life. He took piano lessons as a youth, played accordion and was self-taught on the guitar. Some of the family’s favourite memories are of sitting under the willow tree listening to dad and his nephew Brian playing guitar and singing.

Gerald was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Rosalie in November of 2022. They were together 67 years and he was lost without her.

Gerald is survived by his children Carolyn (Don Preece), Susan (Gerry Out), Jim (Diana) and Dale (Shannon) Almaas. He has nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother Gordon (Sandy) Almaas.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Gerald on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Enderby Legion from 1-4pm.
