George Alric McKnight

George passed away peacefully on February 27 at the age of 84. His engaging spirit left a lasting mark on all who knew him.

George’s life was well lived. From growing up in Port Alberni, working and living in Prince George and eventually moving to Kamloops and the old homestead at Louis Creek. George is remembered by: his Brothers Jim (Barb), Harry (Faye) and Bill (Tracey) and his nieces and nephews, Conny, Michele, David, Katherine, Jill and Kenneth and a wide circle of cousins. He had a very diverse group of friends; including his bandmates from the early 1960s. The Renegades; Jim Rutherford, Gordie Mosbie, Howie Anderson, Don McCreight, Pete Bouver and Dave Thompson. During his time in Prince George he continued his lifelong friendships with Tom & Doug MacDonald and Dick Crewe. Also, his friend and hunting partner, Don Wilkins. In his midlife he produced, the award-winning, Uptown Bluegrass; an early internet radio show that took him to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville Tennessee. Later in his life he established Pal-Core-Ed and instructed many people in the Thompson-Nichola area. He built great friendships with his neighbours in the community of Barrier and Louis Creek. To mention a few, Hank, Haida, Carl, Rose & Perry Seymour. Also, Kathy and his many friends at the North Thompson Fish and Game Club.

Whether sharing stories over a beer, offering advice, or lending a helping hand, he made others feel valued and heard. He found joy in his pleasures—teaching, playing guitar and banjo, he loved raising his sheep, spending time outdoors, hunting all manner of beasties, meaningful conversations, rock music and driving his 1934 Ford Hot Rod.

He is remembered by his Sons and their spouses, Roy (Marilyn), Stephen (Natalie), and his grandchildren Anise, Kimberly, Jocelyn and Ella. 

In remembrance of George. His friends and family in the Kamloops area are invited to attend, The North Thompson Fish and Game Club’s Annual Wild Game Banquet on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the Lion’s Club Hall in Barrier. In lieu of cards or flowers a small donation may be made to the Royal Inland Hospital Foundation with thanks for the compassionate care he was given from the nursing staff on 5 South.
