Freda Madeline Metzger

December 24, 1938 – December 30, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we announce the peaceful passing of Freda Madeline Metzger on December 30, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in Kelowna, BC, Freda’s life was a testament to joy, generosity, and unwavering love, and she leaves behind a family and community that will cherish her memory forever.

Freda is survived by her devoted children: Darwin Metzger (Lori), Laurie Knuever (Steffan), and Carol O’Kell (Des). She was the proud and loving grandmother of Nicholas Seaton (Kaitlin), Chantelle O’Reilly (James), Danielle Sagar (Joe), Lauren O’Kell (Dean), Sara Knuever, Conor O’Kell (Faye), Sheldon Metzger (Natasha), and Katrina Knuever (Seth), and a doting great-grandmother to Ryder O’Reilly, Jack and Scarlett Seaton, and Lily and Hunter Sagar.

Freda was predeceased by her beloved soulmate and the love of her life, Harold Francis Metzger, as well as her parents, Lorna Pearce and Ivan Vansickle, her sisters Retta Lazuark and Lila Melinchuk, and her brothers Jim Vansickle and Ed Vansickle.

Freda was a woman of unparalleled charm, grace, and kindness. Known for her infectious laughter and cheerful personality, she brought warmth and comfort to everyone she met. Her homemade bread, soups, and cinnamon buns were legendary and a source of solace and delight to all who were lucky enough to enjoy them.

For over 20 years, Freda spent her winters in her “happy place,” Mesa, Arizona, basking in the sunshine and relishing every moment. An avid golfer, Freda was a proud member of Spallumcheen Golf Club. Though she eventually had to put her clubs aside, she continued to passionately follow the PGA Tour, always cheering on her favorite players.

Freda’s vibrant spirit shone through her love of casinos, gardening, and shopping. Always impeccably dressed, she was a true fashionista, turning heads with her style and grace even in her final days. A daily martini at happy hour was her signature indulgence, a tradition that highlighted her love for life’s little joys.

Mondays were sacred to Freda, as she hosted morning coffee for her cherished friends. These gatherings were filled with love, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. A self-proclaimed food lover and critic, Freda wasn’t shy about suggesting a dish might need a little more salt, butter, or heat—her honesty always delivered with humor and love.

Freda’s unwavering love for her family and friends was her greatest gift. She touched countless lives with her warmth, hospitality, and generosity. She will be remembered as a bright light in our lives and missed deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital in her memory, honoring her generous spirit and love for the community.

Rest easy, Freda. You brought so much beauty, love, and laughter into this world, and your legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved you
