Elizabeth Sonia Shewchuk

Elizabeth “Sonia” Shewchuk nee Mitran was born October 13, 1932 in Danbury, SK. She passed away peacefully September 8, 2024 in West Kelowna, BC.

Sonia moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1949, where she met her husband, John Shewchuk. They were married for 35 years, until John’s passing in 1987. Winnipeg was where they raised their 3 children and Sonia lived until 1991.  In 1991, she moved to Kelowna, B.C., after retiring from her position as Kitchen Supervisor at Oakview Place Nursing Home. In her retirement, she took up bowling and bowled in a variety of different leagues.

Sonia is survived by Daughters and Daughter-in-law: Joanne McLellan, Sandra (Sandy) Kellas and husband David, Shirley Shewchuk. Grandchildren: Allision and Bob Relkov, Lauren Kellas, Ainslie and Connor Gilchrist. Kaleigh and Larry Wiebe, Ashleigh Shewchuk. She is predeceased by her Husband – John Shewchuk, Son: Richard (Rick) Shewchuk, Son in law: William (Bill) McLellan.

As per Sonia’s wishes there will be no formal service/celebration of life. Expressions of Sympathy can made in lieu of flowers etc. donations may be made at  Donate Online to Arthritis Research Canada .

Thank you to all the staff at Villages at Smith Creek who cared for Sonia over the last few months. Words cannot express the level of care, comfort, kindness, empathy and support that you all provided to Sonia and her family.
