In Loving Memory

Elijah Darren Johannson

With great sorrow, Eli peacefully passed away surrounded by love on March 9th, 2023, after almost a decade of kicking cancers a$$!!!! He arrived in this world with an adventurous birth on September 25th, 2010, and continued to live his life with profound passion and purpose, inspiring and teaching us all so much over the years. In true Eli form, he utilized his wisdom, grace, and humour to journey through the nine years of cancer treatment while taking in all that life had to offer even when adversity was thrown at him. During his treatment he still skied every winter since he was five and got good enough to scare mom with his fearless skills and bold runs. Golf became a joy for him whether playing with his friends or his family, we think primarily it started with Uncle letting him drive the golf carts. Early on his journey, Lego was a quick love, progressing to the adult collectors series at an early age, and started finishing them in a matter of days, this helped pass the time and also brought him joy and a little challenge. Early fall would bring the hunting season, and endless hours sitting in the blind bonding with dad and sometimes Cousin Ty, and last year he proudly got his first and amazingly, a trophy level, buck, teaching him about the gifts of nature and the land. Through all of his hobbies and loves, Eli reminded us all, that life is a gift and to live it thoroughly and to be in the moment. His authentic kindness to his brother, family, friends, health care teams, and general public, never waivered during his journey. His positivity, hilariousness, honesty, and gratefulness has inspired so many. Eli is predeceased by his Afi (Robert) and Nana (Pearl) and survived by his; younger brother (Sully), Father (Iain), Mother (Faith), Grandmother (Patti), Uncles, Aunts and cousins, Rainbow (Gray), Pamela (Jovan), Shale, Jade (Ken), Jamie (Linsey, Ty, Amy), and Emory and numerous other loving family and friends.  We would like to thank our caring family, friends and community for the unwavering love and support over all the years that has helped make this intense journey a little easier. We would also like to extend our gratitude to our amazing healthcare teams from; Vancouver Children’s Hospital, Vernon Hospital, the Canuck Place Hospice House, and the Ronald McDonald House for all the love, support, over and above care, and friendships over the last nine years.

There will be a service and celebration of life on April 15th, 2023, starting at 11:00 am at the Vernon Alliance Church (2601 43rd Avenue), and the Celebration of Life to follow at Vernon Golf & Country Club (800 Kalamalka Lake Road) at 1:30 pm.  Those wishing to do so can leave a memorial donation in Eli’s memory to the Ronald McDonald House (https://secure2.convio.net/rmhb/site/Donation2?df_id=2362&mfc_pref=T&2362.donation=form1)
