Edith Ruth Friesen (Steinke)

Dec. 19,1932 – Feb. 24, 2026

It is with deep sorry we announce the sudden passing of Edith at her home in Vernon B.C. at the age of 93.

Edith is survived by her daughter Melaney Mckay, son in law Vincent Mckay, her grandsons Blaine Mckay, and Wayne Slobodian and his partner Kristen. Also, her sister Lillian, step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents Gustav and Emilie Steinke (Klinger), her husband Abraham James Friesen (1986), her son Oril Friesen, and her siblings; Arthur, Irvin, Martha and Irma.

Edith was born on a farm in Wapella Saskatchewan. She moved to Vancouver and worked as a telephone operator and at the sawmill. She got married and was a wonderful wife and mother to her two children. She briefly moved to Kelowna then moved to Vernon in 1977 until present. She worked sewing designer drapery from 1986 right up until the age of 80. She loved the Lord and was involved in the church. Attending Living Word Lutheran for many years where she found many friends. More recently she attended St John’s Lutheran Church.

Her unconditional love, positive attitude and bright smile will be deeply missed. She always saw the good in people and was a constant support to family and friends. Whatever she had she would give. You could always lean on her for a kind ear, a loving hug, or a heartfelt prayer.

She instilled a faith in the Lord and his saving grace to her children and grandchildren. The best gift she could have given.

She was a beautiful person inside and out. Her presence in our lives will be greatly missed. See you again my dear. Rest easy in His loving arms.

Service will be held on Thursday March 5th at 11:30a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vernon B.C. at 6525 Okanagan Landing Rd. For anyone that wishes to attend.
