In Loving Memory

Douglas Bigsby

Douglas “Doug” Bigsby
September 12, 1955 – February 17, 2025

Doug Bigsby made his final transition on the night of February 17th, 2025, succumbing to Alzheimer’s Disease, at the age of 69 years old, at the Noric House in Vernon B.C.

Though he spent the majority of his life in Armstrong, Doug was born in Ashcroft B.C., and was raised in Castlegar B.C.  Doug moved to Surrey, where he met the love of his life, Lorayne.  They enjoyed scuba diving, and skiing in the winter.

Doug found joy in the simple things—working on the farm, driving his backhoe and tractor, tending to his beloved Ortega grapes, and spending time with his family. He had a passion for music, often playing his guitar, and he loved nothing more than a peaceful day spent fishing. Another of his great joys was building and flying model airplanes, a hobby that brought him endless satisfaction.

Doug dedicated much of his time to the community as a volunteer firefighter with the Armstrong Fire Department.  While our hearts mourn the loss of him, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering.

Above all, Doug was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Lorayne, his three children, Kevan (Pam), Holly (Ryan), and Roni (Andi), his six cherished grandchildren, his sister Penny (Dennis), and his brother Tom (Shelagh).

Doug is predeceased by his father (Alden Bigsby), his mother (Betty Sarell), and his stepmother (Kaye Green).

In honor of his final wishes, Doug’s remains will be spread on the family farm in Armstrong, along with his father.

Doug’s warmth, humor, and hardworking spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held at Cypress Funeral Home in Armstrong, BC (2980 Smith Drive) on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Noric House in Vernon for their compassionate care and support during Doug’s time there.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Awareness Association.

Rest easy, Doug. May the rivers always be full of fish, the skies always be clear for flying, and the music always play on.
