In Loving Memory
Donald Douglas Mihalick
With heavy hearts we share the passing of Don Mihalick on January 16, 2023 at the age of 89.
Don worked on the CPR for 37 years and retired in 1989. He wasn’t quite ready to retire and decided to build his own train in his back yard “My Railroad”. Thousands of tourists came from all over the world to ride on his train over the years. He was known around the town by the kids as the “Train Man”. That still wasn’t enough; he worked at Shepherd’s Hardware for a number of years and at the age of 80 finally decided to retire (again). Don enjoyed walking, every day he walked around town and over the years he would do longer trips, to Kelowna, Vernon, Falkland, Salmon Arm and Revelstoke.
Don is survived by his wife Midge, 2 sons Derek (Debbie) & Lance (Veronika), 2 daughters Michele (Ed) McIsaac and Sonya Mihalick, Grandchildren James (Misty), Ally (Braxton), Lanika, Great Grandchildren Rylan, Aiden, Rhett, brothers and sisters Betty Brothers, Lilly (Wim) Vanderzalm, Ron, Roy, Ginger (Barry) Cousins, Cynthia (Jack) Duncan. Don was preceded by his siblings Ernie, Shane, John, Sally, and Great Grandson Soren.
A special thank you to the Shuswap Lodge for all the care and attention Don received, also to Bastion Place for the care he received, keeping him comfortable in his final days.
A private memorial service for the family will be held in Armstrong.
