In Loving Memory
Don Beattie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don Beattie at the age of 62, with his loving wife Iris by his side. Don was born to Claire and Elmer as the ‘baby’ of the family, the youngest of seven children: Joanne, Karen, Janet, Deanna, Bob, Debbie, then Don. The family split their time whenever possible between their home in the city and the wilderness of the Caribou Region, instilling in Don from an early age a feeling of belonging in the great outdoors. At the age of 22 Don met the love of his life, Iris, and together they embarked on what would become a 40-year journey which would see them leave the lower mainland for a life in the Okanagan. It was here that Don could fully embrace the ‘bushman’ he was always meant to be. Don and Iris’ union produced two children, Cassi and Jesse, and eventually one grandchild as well, Jensen, who quickly became the apple of his grandpa’s eye. Don was a man who loved his family and friends and felt at home in the calm of nature with his best friend, his dog Benjamin. These two were inseparable; they would hunt, fish, go for quad rides, even plow the driveway together. Don’s favourite place to spend time was the family cabin, and his love for that place eventually fostered in him a passion for videography. From this passion he started his own YouTube channel where he could share snapshots of his life and some of his famous wit with a world-wide community. Don Beattie was a smart, charming, capable, and funny man. He was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend and he will be sorely missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate if donations be made in Don’s name to Lake Country Veterinary Clinic in Vernon, BC, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Out of respect for Don’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held privately within the family at a later date.
