In Loving Memory

Deryck Stevens

It is with incredible sadness we said goodbye to Deryck Stevens, who passed away on September 25th 2023, just 4 days shy to his 91st birthday.  Deryck born in Paddington, UK, was the oldest of four children to parents Dorothy and William Stevens.

At a young age Deryck served his country in the Army, completing a tour in Cyprus, Egypt. He then met the love of his life, marrying Bertha on the first day of spring, March 21, 1959.

Their two children Sharon and Paul completed the family soon after.   Bravely, they moved their young family to Ontario where they spent 26 years before retiring and traveling Canada and the USA.  Eventually planting roots in their current location Enderby, British Columbia.

Deryck was a kind and soft-hearted man and a practical joker. His two favourite things in life were soccer and food. He spent much of his free time playing, refereeing, coaching and watching soccer.  His passion for the sport was not limited to his family.  Enderby soccer grew in the community under Deryck’s love, guidance and dedication to the sport.

He was predeceased by his parents and younger sister (Patricia) and is survived by his wife Bertha, children, Sharon (Mike), Paul (Sandra) his grandchildren, Kyle, Danielle, Noah and Jared, along with six great grandchildren.

A sincere thank you to everyone who made Deryck’s last few weeks comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson Society British Columbia at 890 W Pender St #600, Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9.

I remember nothing but love and smiles from my grandfather. He never left home without his “Fanny pack” and helped me accomplish soccer at a young age. Spending a summer together and many visits along the way, I always admired this man and respected his effortless affection towards me. He was a special being and offered a great deal of love and kindness to many. There is no doubt he will bring smiles and appreciation to anyone in the afterlife and will forever leave me with one. With love, Kyle.

I am so very sad to learn of Derycks passing. I have known him and Bertha for many years and admired both of them. Kindness and generosity were always the qualities that distinguished them from most others. I want to express my profound gratitude, to both of them, for granting me their friendship. Take care, Bertha.

    Kindest regards
