In Loving Memory

David Edward Stevens

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Edward Stevens of Hantsport Nova Scotia on Jan 7, 2024, at the age of 83.  David passed away unexpectedly at home with his daughter and son in law at his side in Lumby, BC.

David is survived by his 4 children, Todd Stevens, Tammy Yarish, John Hughes and Marlene Nowick, his two sisters Edith Parkin, Mary Stevens and brother Rob Stevens, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  David was predeceased by his wife Shirley Stevens, brother Bill Stevens and his parents Albert and Bernice Stevens.

David was born in Hantsport, Nova Scotia on June 10, 1940.  He moved to Alberta in his younger adult years, marrying the love of his life, Shirley Sandford, in Calgary, Alberta on April 26, 1974, where they continued to work and live until mom’s retirement in 1995.  They then purchased a home in Turner Valley, Alberta until mom’s passing on January 23, 2007.

After mom’s passing, dad finally retired and moved to BC with his daughter and her family.  Retirement didn’t come easily for dad, but he always found ways to keep busy around the house as he could always find something he figured needed fixing.  He took up golfing in his later years which he quite enjoyed, and loved keeping up with his numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and many honary grandchildren, who all knew and loved him as their Poppy.  He looked forward to his and Charlies’s morning walks to the dog park for a little social outing.  He loved his weekly calls to his sisters back in Nova Scotia to reminisce and keep up on social events.  He loved spending time outdoors watching the numerous birds and deer that visited his door step daily.

Although we are all grieving and will always miss him dearly, we were all blessed to have had the best father, grandfather, and great grandfather, lovingly known as Poppy, for the many years we did.  His legacy will live on in all our hearts and the loving memories will be shared for generations to come.

We said goodbye knowing he is resting easy in the arms of his loving wife.

David was cremated on Jan 10, 2024 and will be accompanied back home to Hantsport, Nova Scotia by his family to his final resting place with his one true love.

We’re so sad to hear about Dave’s passing. Our condolences go out to his Family and Friends.
We’ve met Dave through Todd and Teresa and enjoyed many interactions over the years through gatherings, poker, as well as he and Todd helped build our deck. Most of all I will remember him as a quiet, true Gentleman. RIP Dave! You will be missed. 😢❤️
