In Loving Memory
Darlene Olive Lumsden
Darlene Olive Lumsden, age 75, passed away on February 5, 2023, in Vernon, BC. Born in Grimshaw, Alberta to Chester and Adeline Brong and was sister to brothers, Bing and Chuck. In 1969 she married Les Lumsden whom she would spend the rest of her life with, having a son named Richard.
Darlene was a stern but caring person with a fun sense of humor. She loved to cook saying, “She didn’t eat to live, she lived to eat.” and made sure anyone who visited was fed, just make sure you wash your hands when you were done.
Her caring nature extended to everyone around her, always treating people like her own family leaving behind an extended legacy with neighbors’ children and son’s friends who still refer to her as their “second mom”.
Darlene loved finding ways to be creative. She would spend hours working on her passions, whether it was paper-toll, cross stitching, sewing, quilting, and even painting to Bob Ross.
She was also a big Vancouver Canucks fan and her feisty personality would show once her team hit the ice.
Darlene’s desire to help others led her to become a nurse where she eventually found her calling working in Psychiatric Care, which she did passionately until suffering a career-ending injury.
Darlene battled many personal challenges and health conditions including numerous major surgeries, fighting through them as best she could, but always looking for different ways to help others, volunteering with local fundraisers for charities and animal shelters when able to.
Eventually her battle with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s took away her ability to continue her fight.
Darlene will be dearly missed by family and friends.
