In Loving Memory
Dale Cameron Brooker
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Dale Cameron Brooker at the age of 83, on January 14, 2023. He is predeceased by his mother, Jean Brooker, and his father, Paul Brooker. Dale is survived by his two loving daughters Shona (Darrell) and Leigh, mother of his two children Sharon, by his two adoring grandsons, Dallas (Rosie) and Cody, as well as his cousin Carolyn and his great niece Terri. He also leaves behind his good friend Chris Cooper.
Dale was born March 29, 1939 in Vernon, and spent his childhood in Vernon enjoying the outdoors. He married Sharon in 1962, and they embarked on a motorcycle trip around the world. This trip was one of his life’s highlights and left lasting memories. Dad loved Vernon, and felt very fortunate to live in such a beautiful community. Every summer, he would take his daughters to his cabin, where they all enjoyed swimming, sailing, and late night ghost stories, after which Shona and Leigh would spend many hours awake, unable to sleep. Winter weekends were spent at Silver Star with his girls. Every moment of their time together was filled with laughter and fun.
Dad loved the outdoors. From panning for gold in the forest streams, camping with his daughters (minus the tent poles), to spending time at the cabin and sailing on Okanagan Lake, he found his happy place outdoors. He was also an animal lover at heart, always with a rescue dog by his side.
Dale worked for OK Tel, BC Tel, and finally Telus. He retired early, in order to enjoy more of his golden years. He was a longtime member of the Vernon Yacht Club, putting in many volunteer hours over the years.
We would like to thank the amazing staff at Creekside Landing, who cared so well for him and made Dad’s last years comfortable, as well as the staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital.
Dale will be greatly missed. At his request, there will be no service. Any personal messages of condolence to the family may be left at Cypress Funeral. Please consider donating to an animal rescue organization in remembrance of Dale. Raise a glass for a life well lived and lives touched by laughter and friendship.
Dad, we miss you deeply, and are comforted by the knowledge that you are now free. Rest easy.
